Before and After

06 July 2011 Filed In: corner view, tribeca, Uncategorized

Before.  First Day of Kindergarden.

After. Last Day of Kindergarden.

And just like that, it happens.  We have a rising first grader.

What did she learn?

If you a hold a snail in your hand and then put it down, you will have slime in your hand.

What did she love about her teacher?

She would help you if you, like, couldn’t figure something out and got really upset and still couldn’t figure out how to do it.  She told you to ask two friends first, but if you still couldn’t figure it out, then she helped.  And?  She’s very nice!

Favorite Class?

[incredulous stare] Dance.  Mama, you knew that!

Four lost teeth, many newly forged friendships, a few nightmares, several lessons learned, and a mile of drawings later, she has made it through her Kindergarden year.

A few days before school ended, one of her girl friends ran up to us on the playground, where we had gone after school.  She presented Mira with an envelope, drawn all over, with a Dum Dum pop  and an orange Starburst precariously taped on as well as, of all things, a dollar bill.  Inside, there was a hand drawn birthday invitation.  The date of the party?  September 19th, 2011 at 7 pm.

The little girl turned to me and said joyfully, “My mom, my dad, and my sister, they all told me not to put that dollar bill on there, but I didn’t listen.  I love Mira, and I want her to get a lollipop and a dollar bill and a Starburst!”

What a sweet year.  And, there is so much to look forward to.

Precious friendship, precious little (or not so little anymore) girl. Great idea to take pictures in those moments. Love your CV!

(btw, I have a dress in the same Liberty fabrics, in the 1st picture, but in grey shades)

That is so sweet. Or maybe bittersweet- having them grow up in the blink of an eye! My bug series was captured after refusing to go look for a number of minutes. That’s why I didn’t get it in the shell for the first shot. I HATE bugs. The whole thing creeped me out, but it was fascinating enough that I did photograph it. Hope your newest little is doing well!

My, she HAS grown. Just looking at the pictures, I can tell. And what a wonderful story to underline it.

Our Top4 will be out of Kindergarten this year too. It’s such a pity that her class is diminshed to just four kids next year. Can you believe that? They will be sharing a class room with second grade, which brings the total up to ten kids. Luckily, she has a few nice girl friends.

How wonderful! It is amazing how much can happen over the course of a year. I’m still in shock that kindergarten just seemed to fly by for my daughter. She may be ready for first grade in the fall, but am I?

She looks so grown up in the afters – hard to believe that the photos were taken only a school year apart. Absolutely beautiful!
