Corner View: Places of Reflection

08 July 2009 Filed In: all the rest, corner view

What is this “reflection” you speak of?  Life with a four and a two year old does not always allot much time for reflecting.  Mostly, my children force me to live right in the moment and to have to sneak in my reflections in stops and starts throughout my day.

When there is more than a moment, dancing and practicing yoga are the things that connect me back into that reflection space.  The movement stills my mind just enough so that the mundane things fall by the wayside and a clear space can  open up.
The pictures shown here were taken by my friend Alison Dorfman on a retreat that I co-led with my dear friend Tal Rachleff to Peru.  It was magical and healing being there, so completely gnarly on an emotional level.  Whenever I look at these pictures, it reminds me to take a moment to be alone, not compare myself to anything or anyone, not to think of myself as a mother, a wife, a daughter, but to simply be.

I often feel like this when I do yoga as well. Or really when I work out in general. There's something very calming to be doing something that helps your body so much. Great post. I loved your words.

I know what you mean. Living with small kids is the best way to live NOW. I have always been a little afraid of yoga but your pics makes me want to try. Maybe…

I thought those mountains seemed south american. I look forward to reading "My Year of Wonders" and was recently reminded by a friend that I said I'd read it. I'd love to know what you think if you do find the time to read it. And I'll completely let you know about the mystery of the house. I've heard stories about a cow and an engagement ring… more to learn…

These photos take my breath away! Finding those moments – big and small – to reflect on unity and self are so important. Thank you for the gorgeous visual reminder. (I can't wait to explore the links.)

oh lovely! I missed out on this week's corner view, but if I had posted I was going to put a picture of me on my mat or of just my yoga mat. I can put that thing down anywhere and imediatly be brought to a place of peace. (I don't really need the mat, but there is something special about that rectangular boundary that puts me in the right fram of mind).
Be well and thanks for stopping by my blog.

Peru and Yoga! Sounds like a great place for reflection!
And a beautiful place to come by yourself, is watching those pictures going back to Peru for you? Especially being busy with your kids?
